Our Bexleyheath dentists can help stop excessive sweating
Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is an embarrassing problem that can affect men and women from puberty onwards.
While hyperhidrosis does not pose a serious threat to health, it can cause significant emotional, psychological distress, embarrassment and can have a negative impact on a person’s quality of life. If you are one of those affected, please don’t suffer in silence, speak to the Kent dentists at Danson Park Dental Practice in Crook Log.
Our fully trained practitioners use botulinum toxin to stop heavy sweating from the armpits. The treatment, most often associated with smoothing lines and wrinkles, works by preventing the release of a chemical that signals the sweat glands to activate. The results can often last for nearly a year.
Hyperhidrosis may be inherited and usually has an onset around puberty. Disorders of the thyroid or pituitary glands, tumours, diabetes, gout, menopause. Certain drug side effects can also trigger the condition.
Whatever the reason hyperhidrosis can be embarrassing. Typically, the armpit can literally drip with sweat and this cannot be controlled by antiperspirants. Usually the affected sweat glands can be disabled for a period of six to twelve months by tiny application of botulinum toxin. Sometimes more than one appointment is required.
