At Danson park we are committed to further education and improving our skills continuously. As we are a group of UK trained specialist we are able to provide certified courses towards continual professional development of our colleagues. What this means is that we can give training to general practitioners and dental nurses/ therapist and give them the much sought after certified hours of continual professional development which is required annually by the general dental council.
One of our first study clubs was related to root canal treatment which commenced on 20th of September 2011 at Marriot Hotel in Bexleyheath. In total there were 18 dentist and nurses who joined our study club, the evening started with a lecture from Dr James Aquilina our endodontist on benefits of using rubber dam in endodontic treatment and different methods of its application.
Rubber dam is a rubber sheet which is applied on to the tooth during root canal therapy and placement of white fillings and some other restorative work to protect the patients airway. Without rubber dam the success of root canal treatment bonding of the white fillings is very poor no matter how hard you try to achieve good results.
The participants got a chance to put all this into practice by placing rubber dam on phantom heads. We would like to thank Dentsply for providing the equipment for the night.
Our next endodontic study club will take place in Feburary 2012 with practical session on preparation of root canal using rotary and hand instrument.
